Facial Reconstruction
In today’s world a person can have their entire face altered. Cosmetic surgeons can change the shape and placement of just about any facial feature including the ears. They also perform many other types of cosmetic surgery including breast implants.
Ears
Otoplasty is the medical term for an ear reshaping surgery. A cosmetic surgeon will remove cartilage behind the ear, shape it, and then bend it back toward the head. This procedure is mainly performed on children but in some cases adults can benefit from this as well. The length of the ear surgery can take up to two hours for the surgeon to complete. Patients can opt to go home that same day or stay in the hospital overnight. The recovery time associated with ear reshaping depends on the severity of the problem. In most cases a patient can be stitch free and bandage free in about a week after surgery.
Eyes
Canthoplasty is surgery that tightens the muscles around the eye. Cosmetic surgeons can also use this procedure to reshape the eye giving the patients eye shape a slant in the outer corner of the eye. A very small incision is made by the surgeon in the outer corner of the patient’s eyelid during this procedure. This surgical procedure generally only takes a cosmetic surgeon two hours to complete. There typically will be bruising around the eyes that will last only a few days.
Nose
Rhinoplasty is the technical name of the surgery to reshape ones nose. This is where the cosmetic surgeon will separate skin, bone and cartilage and will form them into the desired shape. This surgery usually requires the patient to stay overnight in the hospital as it is a little more invasive than some other cosmetic surgeries. Swelling, bruising around the nose and eyes and a little discomfort are known conditions that happen after the surgery. These side effects can last up to two weeks after the surgery has been completed.
Cheeks
Cosmetic surgeons can perform a procedure called cheek augmentation or cheek implants. This surgery can enhance person’s facial features by adding height to the existing cheek bone or by filling out the area under the bone. This is usually considered an out patient procedure as the patient can generally go home right after the surgery is performed. The surgery itself will only take the physician, at the most, two hours to complete. As with many cosmetic surgeries the patient should expect a little swelling and bruising after the surgery. There may be a little pain felt by the patient but many physicians will administer a pain medication to help with this. A patient can expect to be fully recovered from the surgery in two weeks.
