Dentistry Abroad
The British dental plans are not remotely close to one of the best in the world. If you do need work done then it will cost you an arm and a leg to pay for it. Over the years dentists have been starting their own dental services in private practices.
Dental care has been redeemed abundant in the basic insurance packages around the world. So to have your teeth looked after properly you will need to add extra insurance so that your teeth get the attention that they deserve.
Having your teeth looked after abroad can be a benefit not only to you but also your family. For example: France has an excellent medical coverage and has medical facilities that include the dentistry’s around the country.
There are many resources online about what one of the best French dentistry’s is. All of the dentists in France are required to be connected to a national dentist network.
Another option is that you take the ferry over to Ireland. You could go to one of the dentists that are listed with the Irish dental association and get very good dental care.
There are several types of dentistry’s in Ireland. One type of dentist in Ireland is for private patients going for surgery. These dentists only handle patients that are not connected to any state health insurance agency. This will most likely be you as you are a foreign person entering the dentistry.
Then there is the PRSI option. This is for Irish nationals that are connected to the state’s health insurance program. This program covers only the basics like cleaning and polishing teeth. You will not be eligible for this program unless you are an Irish national and are in the wealth fare program. To be part of this program you will need to have approval of the Department of Social and Family Affairs.
The health board option is geared towards children up to 16 years of age. It serves around 200 million people in Ireland. Again, unless you have children that have an Irish passport or are national, you will not be eligible for this program.
The Irish dental association and the government are currently looking to set up certain 3rd party schemes that might be beneficial to foreign nationals who seek dental work in the Republic of Ireland.
As with everything, when travelling abroad, the costs are your responsibility. Having a dentist abroad might be good if you have regular half yearly check ups.
